VIKTORIYA TUDORAN-OPANASENKO

Viktoriya Tudoran-Opanasenko (COdVT)
Was born in 1980 in the industrial city of Mykolaiv (Ukraine). She has been interested in drawing since childhood, but the social environment where she grew up made her understand very early that being an artist was not the best choice to earn a living. Therefore, she gave up drawing for over 20 years. In 2003, Viktoriya received a master’s degree in computer science, graduating from The Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding in Mykolaiv, and she has worked as a computer scientist ever since. In 2015, while working as a university lecturer, Viktoriya published a student coursebook titled Human-Computer Interaction. The Ukrainian Ministry of Science still recommends the book as an official student coursebook for all Ukrainian universities. The book is about designing Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) while considering the functioning of the human brain.
In 2015, Viktoriya and her husband moved to Poland. As it was a time of change in many areas of her life, she also got back to her childhood interest in drawing and learnt it from books.Initially, sketching was just a tool to improve drawing techniques, but soon it became a passion. As Viktoria puts it, ‘In our dynamic world, sketching allows us to quickly capture the place’s atmosphere. So I draw how I see and feel this place. Grey Warsaw, at first glance, with an unbelievable combination of disharmonic styles inspired me to draw, and it has never been grey to me since then.’
Some people think that urban sketching tends to focus on architecture — it indeed plays a significant role in Viktoriya’s marker sketches. However, the urban environment cannot exist without people. Each window, each restaurant table encaptures a lot of people’s emotions, feelings, and secrets. Viktoriya presents them on canvas. Today, Viktoriya holds the position of Senior Software Engineer in an international company. In addition, she conducts ‘Sketch Your Speech’ training sessions in drawing as a visual aid in public speaking
